HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Chicago South Suburban Mass Transit District; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago South Suburban Mass Transit District was organized and incorporated on October 13, 1967 as a local mass transit district to serve the transportation needs of local communities; and

WHEREAS, Initially, there were 11 participating municipalities: Homewood, Harvey, Olympia Fields, Flossmoor, Dixmoor, Park Forest, Matteson, East Hazel Crest, Richton Park, Riverdale, and Hazel Crest; and

WHEREAS, In 1971, the Chicago South Suburban Mass Transit District puts its first Highliner cars into service; the last run of the original Highliners took place on February 12, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Over the years, the Chicago South Suburban Mass Transit District has grown to accommodate the ever-increasing transportation needs of the area by expanding its rail lines and operating commuter parking lots; and

WHEREAS, Currently, the Chicago South Suburban Mass Transit District is comprised of 14 participating municipalities with the addition of Blue Island, Calumet Park, and University Park; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the 50th anniversary of the Chicago South Suburban Mass Transit District, and we wish them many more years of success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Chicago South Suburban Mass Transit District as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
