| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Michael H. Cooney of Woodstock, who | 4 | | passed away on October 28, 2016; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Michael Cooney was born in Woodstock to Donald J. | 6 | | and Beatrice M. (Menzel) Cooney on December 21, 1953; he | 7 | | graduated from Marian Central Catholic High School in 1973 and | 8 | | studied at McHenry County College before transferring to the | 9 | | Worsham College of Mortuary Science, graduating in 1977; he | 10 | | married Deborah M. Curtis at St. Paul United Church of Christ | 11 | | in Palatine on March 11, 1983; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Michael Cooney worked in the funeral industry for | 13 | | over 40 years; he was an owner of Schneider Leucht Merwin & | 14 | | Cooney Funeral Home for the last 28 years; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Michael Cooney volunteered at the local hospital | 16 | | for many years during the holiday season, playing Santa Claus | 17 | | for the children; he enjoyed going on vacations with his | 18 | | family, traveling to many destinations, but his favorites were | 19 | | Florida and the Great Smoky Mountains; he was affectionately | 20 | | known as "Chief"; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Michael Cooney was preceded in death by his |

| 1 | | parents; his son-in-law, Tyler Young; and his mother-in-law, | 2 | | May-June Curtis; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Michael Cooney is survived by his wife, Deborah; | 4 | | his son, Shawn M. (Janice) Cooney; his daughter, Erin M. Young; | 5 | | his grandchildren, Lillian, Margaret, Clara, and Kade; his | 6 | | siblings, Patrick Cooney, Debra (Dan) Riggle, Timothy (Linda) | 7 | | Cooney, Daniel (Sue) Cooney, and Kevin Cooney; his | 8 | | father-in-law, Edward Curtis; his sister-in-law, Terry (Mark) | 9 | | Walke; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, | 10 | | "adopted" children, and very dear friends; therefore, be it
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 12 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 13 | | Michael H. Cooney, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 14 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 15 | | further
