SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Deacon Roger Schmith of Woodridge, who
4passed away at the age of 95; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Deacon Roger Schmith was retired from the West
6Suburban Community Pantry, which he co-founded, and where he
7served in a volunteer capacity for 20 years; prior to founding
8the West Suburban Community Pantry, he served as chairperson of
9Downer Grove FISH, a non-denominational service provider of
10food, financial assistance, and transportation to people in
11need; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Deacon Roger Schmith was a member of the Illinois
13Hunger Coalition and the Catholic Roundtable of Social Action
14Directors; he served as Secretary of the Community Affairs
15Division of the Illinois Catholic Conference and was the Joliet
16Diocesan Legislative Advocacy Coordinator; he was also a
17speaker at the National Social Justice Ministries Gathering in
18Washington D.C. and at the Diocesan Peace and Justice Institute
19on Legislative Advocacy; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Deacon Roger Schmith served as a deacon at St.
21Scholastica since 1983; he was on the church's Parish Pastoral
22Council, Christian Service Commission, and RCIA team, and

1coordinated baptism and marriage preparation; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Deacon Roger Schmith is the beloved husband of
3Barbara (nee Dorsey); the loving father of Scott Schmith,
4Gretchen Higgins, Matthew (Annie) Kiskunas, David Schmith,
5Andrea Schmith, and Jeremy (Beatrice) Schmith; the cherished
6grandfather of Andrew Schmith, Michael and Amanda Higgins, and
7Dylan and Grace Castro; the proud great-grandfather of 3; the
8dear brother of Charles (Marty) Schmith, Robert (Karen)
9Schmith, Nicholas (Debbie) Schmith, and Arnold (Shelli) and
10Theresa (David) Wenham; he is also survived by 13 nieces and
11nephews; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
14family and friends, mourn the passing of Deacon Roger Schmith;
15and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Deacon Roger Schmith as an
18expression of our sympathy.
