SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Mary Elizabeth Flynn of Belleville, who passed away on April 19, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Mary Flynn was born in East St. Louis on April 29, 1916 to Christina Marie and Joseph Michael Haider; she graduated from 8th grade at St. Henry's School in East St. Louis and then attended St. Teresa Academy in East St. Louis for 2 years, before attending St. Elizabeth Academy in St. Louis, Missouri, graduating in 1934; she graduated in 1938 from Fontbonne College in St. Louis with a bachelor's degree in home economics and dietetics; she married Harry David Lynn on November 25, 1943 at St. Joseph's Rectory in Rock Island; and

WHEREAS, After graduation, Mary Flynn worked at Jacksonville State Hospital as a dietitian, staying until 1942; she then began working at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, staying until 1943 when she began working for the St. Joseph's Parish Rationing Board; she eventually began working as a substitute teacher at Holy Angels School and St. Patrick's School in East St. Louis; she then went to work at Wurth Dairy, retiring in 1977; later in 1977, she went to work in the mailroom at Our Lady of Snows Shrine, retiring in 1997 after 20 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Mary Flynn was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Sodality, the Mothers' Club, and the Queen of Peace Funeral Luncheon Group; and

WHEREAS, Mary Flynn was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; her daughter, Mary Jo Flynn; her parents; and her siblings, Carl Haider, Genevieve Haider McGovern, Austin Haider, and Helen Haider Breslin; and

WHEREAS, Mary Flynn is survived by her children, Patrick Michael (Thiem) Flynn, Barbara Hauck, Jerry (Luana) Flynn, Bob Flynn, Kathy (Walter) Neff, and Pat (Kevin) Fitzgerald; her grandchildren, Stephen Romanik, Kelly (Mike) Becker, Jeremy Flynn, Sean (Julie) Flynn, Julie (Jason) Reichert, Erin Flynn, Amanda (Chris) Campbell, Chris (Meredith) Flynn, Kevin (Jamie) Flynn, Mike Fitzgerald, Colleen Fitzgerald, and Brian Flynn; and her 12 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Mary Elizabeth Flynn, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mary Flynn as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
