SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Invasive species come in many forms, from plants
3and animals to insects and diseases; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Invasive species can greatly harm the ecology and
5economy of the State of Illinois; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Invasive species can reduce productivity of
7agricultural lands, impact diversity of natural systems,
8reduce wildlife habitat, and limit recreational activities;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, The State of Illinois faces many challenges with
11invasive plants and animals; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Illinois can make a significant difference in
13battling invasive species, whether through cleaning water
14craft, volunteering at workdays, choosing to purchase species
15that are not considered invasive, knowing proper disposal
16methods for bait and unwanted aquarium pets or plants, or
17controlling invasive species on their lands; and
 
18    WHEREAS, The public's awareness and participation is key to
19reducing and eliminating invasive species in Illinois; and

1    WHEREAS, The State of Illinois has a longstanding
2commitment to its natural heritage; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
5CONCURRING HEREIN, that we show our support for Illinois
6Invasive Species Awareness Month, which states that
7organizations, agencies, and groups across Illinois will team
8up each year up to organize events that raise awareness of the
9negative impacts of invasive species on Illinois' landscape and
10economy; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That we designate the month of May in 2015 and
122016 as Invasive Species Awareness Month in the State of
13Illinois in furtherance of our support of this important
14initiative.
