HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Dogs have partnered with humans for over 20,000
3years, resulting in the close bond and mutual dependence we
4share today with these wonderful animals; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Purebred dog breeds were historically developed
6to respond to all manner of specific needs of humans, from
7utilitarian to comfort and enjoyment; purpose-bred dogs, due to
8their recorded lineage, represent the predictability of size,
9temperament, coat type, energy level, and trainability that
10were specifically bred for those tasks that are now invaluable
11to humans; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Purebred dogs were carefully selected to assist
13mankind in almost all aspects of our lives; these purpose-bred
14animals tend our flocks, herd our cattle, hunt game on land and
15water, rid our homes and barns of destructive vermin, pull our
16carts or sleds, protect our children, guard our homes, and
17rescue humans in snow, land, and water; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Purebred dogs were developed to perform viable
19jobs that humans rely upon every day; these dogs act as police
20officers, protect our military from bombs and enemies, guide
21our blind, alert the deaf, assist our veterans, act as helping
22hands to the disabled, alert their owners to various medical

1conditions, comfort the sick, and are our partners in every
2human endeavor; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Purebred dogs have provided inestimable help to
4medical science, serving as models for various diseases,
5advancing both human and canine medicine; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dogs of purebred or mixed heritage should all be
7valued, but the preservation and promotion of the various
8purpose-bred dogs should be celebrated and preserved for future
9generations; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Each purebred dog breed represents the living
11history of mankind's evolution alongside their canine
12companions, and, as befits their importance to humans, should
13be preserved as living testament to the partnership between
14species that is celebrated in over 80 million homes in the
15United States; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18proudly recognize May 1, 2016 as National Purebred Dog Day in
19celebration of purebred dogs and the many service and companion
20benefits they provide; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

2Federation of Dog Clubs and Owners.
