| 2 | | WHEREAS, Measles is a highly contagious respiratory |
| 3 | | disease that spreads easily through the air or on infected |
| 4 | | surfaces; it causes rash, high fever, cough, runny nose, and |
| 5 | | red watery eyes; people who are infected with measles can |
| 6 | | spread the virus for up to 4 days before developing symptoms; |
| 7 | | and

| 8 | | WHEREAS, Measles affect all organs of the body, and can |
| 9 | | cause serious and, in some cases, fatal complications in |
| 10 | | children, including pneumonia and encephalitis; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, A non-immunized person or child has a 90% chance |
| 12 | | of getting the measles if they come in contact with an infected |
| 13 | | person; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, The measles vaccine has been shown in numerous |
| 15 | | studies to be one of the most safe and effective vaccines |
| 16 | | available; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, High immunization rates in a community will |
| 18 | | protect those who cannot be vaccinated, including children |
| 19 | | undergoing cancer treatment and infants under 12 months of age, |
| 20 | | who are at the highest risk of serious illness, |
| 21 | | hospitalization, or death due to measles; and
