SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
30 ILCS 595/35 new

    Amends the Local Food, Farms, and Jobs Act. Provides that the Department of Agriculture shall create and maintain 2 public directories for the purpose of facilitating the purchase of local farm or food products. Provides that the Farmers' Public Directory shall include information necessary for farmers to identify and contact purchasing agents. Provides that the Purchasers' Public Directory shall include information necessary for purchasers to identify and contact qualified farmers and distributors. Authorizes the Department to adopt rules necessary to implement this program.

1    AN ACT concerning finance.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Local Food, Farms, and Jobs Act is amended
5by adding Section 35 as follows:
 
6    (30 ILCS 595/35 new)
7    Sec. 35. Public Directories. The Department of Agriculture
8shall create and maintain 2 public directories for the purpose
9of facilitating the purchase of local farm or food products.
10The directories shall be developed and maintained jointly with
11the Local Food, Farms, and Jobs Council. The directories shall
12be as follow:
13    (a)Farmers' Public Directory. The Farmers' Public
14Directory shall include, at a minimum, information necessary
15for farmers to identify and contact purchasing agents at:
16        (1) State agencies;
17        (2) Public colleges; and
18        (3) State universities.
19    (b)Purchasers' Public Directory. The Purchasers' Public
20Directory shall include, at a minimum, information necessary
21for purchasers to identify and contact qualified farmers and
22distributors of local farm or food products. The Department
23shall adopt rules necessary to implement this Section. The

1Department shall solicit federal and State funding for the
2purpose of implementing this program, and this program is
3subject to appropriations. The requirement of the Department to
4establish, and make available on its website, this database
5shall become effective once the Department has secured all of
6the additional federal or State funding necessary to implement
7this program.
