SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
50 ILCS 750/15.8 new

    Amends the Emergency Telephone System Act. Provides that an entity that installs or operates a private business switch service shall install and operate that service such that when a user dials the digits "9-1-1" the emergency call can be connected to the 9-1-1 system without first dialing any number or set of numbers. Sets forth penalties for failing to comply with the requirements of this amendatory Act. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Emergency Telephone System Act is amended by
5adding Section 15.8 as follows:
 
6    (50 ILCS 750/15.8 new)
7    Sec. 15.8. 9-1-1 dialing from a business.
8    (a) Any entity that installs or operates a private business
9switch service and provides telecommunications facilities or
10services to businesses shall ensure that all systems installed
11on or after the effective date of this amendatory Act of the
1298th General Assembly are connected to the public switched
13network in a manner such that when a user dials "9-1-1", the
14emergency call connects to the 9-1-1 system without first
15dialing any number or set of numbers.
16    (b) The requirements of this Section do not apply to
17correctional institutions and facilities defined in subsection
18(d) of Section 3-1-2 of the Unified Code of Corrections.
19    (c) An entity that violates this Section is guilty of a
20business offense and shall be fined not less than $1,000 and
21not more than $5,000.
 
22    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
