AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1630

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 1630 on page 3,
3immediately below line 25, by inserting:
4    "(i) This Section does not prohibit a referring physician
5who takes a patient specimen from charging a patient or a payer
6an acquisition or processing charge when:
7        (a) the charge is limited to actual costs incurred for
8    specimen collection and transportation; and
9        (b) the charge is separately coded or denoted as a
10    service distinct from the performance of the anatomic
11    pathology service, in conformance with the coding policies
12    of the American Medical Association.
13    (j) Nothing in this Section shall be construed to prohibit
14a referring physician from sending a patient's specimen to any
15laboratory providing anatomic pathology services.
16    (k) This Section does not apply to facilities licensed
17under the Hospital Licensing Act or the University of Illinois
18Hospital Act or clinical laboratories owned, operated by, or

1operated within facilities licensed under the Hospital
2Licensing Act or the University of Illinois Hospital Act, when
3billing for inpatient services or outpatient services from
4those facilities. "; and
 
5on page 6, immediately below line 22, by inserting:
6    "(i) This Section does not prohibit a referring physician
7who takes a patient specimen from charging a patient or a payer
8an acquisition or processing charge when:
9        (a) the charge is limited to actual costs incurred for
10    specimen collection and transportation; and
11        (b) the charge is separately coded or denoted as a
12    service distinct from the performance of the anatomic
