HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to acknowledge the excellent police work performed by several law enforcement agencies during an armed robbery at the First National Bank in Cairo; and

WHEREAS, Police responded to a call of a robbery in progress at approximately 5:15 p.m. on May 15, 2014 and discovered 3 victims severely wounded in the employee break room of the First National Bank; two of the employees suffered fatal wounds and a third employee was in critical condition; and

WHEREAS, The suspect fled the scene south towards Missouri; the Pulaski County Sheriff and the Illinois State Police located the vehicle on I-57 and followed it into Illinois, near the Canadian Northern Rail tracks; and

WHEREAS, The suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot; he was located on top of a railroad trestle and was surrounded by officers from various agencies; within 45 minutes, the suspect was apprehended by law enforcement personnel from the Illinois State Police, the Alexander County Sheriff's Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police, the Cairo Police Department, the Metropolis Police Department, the Pulaski County Police Department, and various other out-of-state federal agencies and personnel from the fire departments of Cairo and Metropolis; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend the law enforcement personnel from the Illinois State Police, the Alexander County Sheriff's Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police, the Metropolis Police Department, the Metropolis Fire Department, the Pulaski County Police Department, and various out-of-state federal agencies, and the personnel from the fire departments of Cairo and Metropolis on their work in quickly apprehending the suspect and give our best wishes for a quick and complete recovery to the woman injured in the incident; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the Illinois State Police, the Alexander County Sheriff's Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police, the Cairo Police Department, the Cairo Fire Department, the Metropolis Police Department, the Metropolis Fire Department, and the Pulaski County Police Department.
