HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Scott County was formed in 1839 and was named for
3one of the pioneer families that settled the area; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Scott County was once the home of Senator Stephen
5Douglas and honors him with a monument featuring his dying
6words that urged his family to "support the Constitution of the
7United States"; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Today, Scott County is home to numerous cities and
9villages, including Alsey, Manchester, Glasgow, Riggston,
10Merritt, Exeter, Bluffs, Oxville, Naples, and the county seat
11of Winchester; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Scott County's history is preserved through the
13efforts of such institutions as the Old School Museum in
14Winchester, the Naples Archeological District, and the
15Winchester Historic District; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Scott County continues to grow and develop through
17the efforts of local governments, citizens, and the Scott
18County Economic Development Corporation; and
 
19    WHEREAS, This year, Scott County and its 5,222 residents in
20west-central Illinois are celebrating the county's 175th

1anniversary; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
3NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
4we congratulate the citizens of Scott County on the celebration
5of this important milestone; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the Chairperson of the Scott County Board in
8recognition of this joyous occasion.
