AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 622

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 622 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing Section
55-4 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/5-4)  (from Ch. 122, par. 5-4)
7    Sec. 5-4. Election of trustees. The election of trustees of
8schools shall be held in odd-numbered years at the election
9specified in the general election law. In townships in which no
10election for school trustees has been held, or in townships in
11which from any cause there are no trustees of schools and the
12law requires that there be school trustees, the election of
13trustees of schools shall be held at the same time.
14    No person shall be nominated for the office of trustee of
15schools, in townships containing 20,000 inhabitants or over,
16except by petition signed by at least a number of voters equal

1to 5% of the votes cast in the last election for the same
2position in twenty-five voters of the school township in which
3he is seeking nomination and election filed with the township
4treasurer, or, in case of a first election, with the county
5clerk.
6    A candidate for election as a school trustee, who has
7petitioned for nomination to fill a full term and to fill a
8vacant term to be voted upon at the same election, must
9withdraw his or her petition for nomination from either the
10full term or the vacant term by written declaration, which
11shall be signed and acknowledged by an officer authorized to
12take such acknowledgments and which is filed with the township
13treasurer in the township in which he or she is a candidate
14within the time provided by the general election law.

16    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
17becoming law.".
