AN ACT concerning education.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section 21-25.5 as follows:

(105 ILCS 5/21-25.5 new)

Sec. 21-25.5. Marriage and family therapist certification. Not later than June 1, 2010, the State Board of Education shall initiate rulemaking to provide standards for the certification of marital and family therapists employed by school boards. These rules shall include certification requirements to be met by (i) licensure as a marital and family therapist under the Marriage and Family Therapy Licensing Act and (ii) completion of such other experience and other programmatic requirements as the State Board of Education deems appropriate for the position of marital and family therapist in a school system.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
