AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 577

2     AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 577 by replacing
3 everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4     "Section 5. The Regional Transportation Authority Act is
5 amended by adding Section 3B.09b as follows:
 
6     (70 ILCS 3615/3B.09b new)
7     Sec. 3B.09b. Payment of fares by credit card.
8     (a) On and after the effective date of this amendatory Act
9 of the 96th General Assembly, the Commuter Rail Board shall
10 allow passengers to purchase fares by credit card (i) through
11 an Internet website operated by the Board and (i) at 25% or
12 more of its stations, including the LaSalle Street Station,
13 Union Station, Ogilvie Transportation Center, and Millenium
14 Station.
15     (b) Within one year after the effective date of this
16 amendatory Act of the 96th General Assembly, the Commuter Rail

1 Board shall allow passengers to purchase fares by credit card
2 at 50% or more of its stations.
3     (c) Within 2 years after the effective date of this
4 amendatory Act of the 96th General Assembly, the Commuter Rail
5 Board shall allow passengers to purchase fares by credit card
6 at 75% or more of its stations.
7     (d) The Board may not require a passenger who chooses to
8 purchase a fare by credit card to pay an additional fee, an
9 additional charge, or a higher fare than is charged to
10 passengers who pay by some other means.
 
11     Section 90. The State Mandates Act is amended by adding
12 Section 8.33 as follows:
 
13     (30 ILCS 805/8.33 new)
14     Sec. 8.33. Exempt mandate. Notwithstanding Sections 6 and 8
15 of this Act, no reimbursement by the State is required for the
16 implementation of any mandate created by this amendatory Act of
17 the 96th General Assembly.".
