HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of the Monarch Awards Foundation of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated's Xi Nu Omega Chapter on the occasion of hosting its 28th Annual Monarch Awards Gala, "A Tribute to Black Men", on December 4, 2010; and

WHEREAS, The Monarch Awards Foundation was established in 1988 as a non-profit programming and fundraising organization; the foundation annually implements community-based programs and fundraisers, awarding more than $600,000 in scholarships and non-profit assistance since its inception; and

WHEREAS, The Monarch Awards Foundation seeks to provide programs of service to the community, alone and in partnership with other organizations; to provide scholarships to assist students in academic endeavors; to provide assistance to community-based not-for-profits; to provide referrals, information, and assistance to families; and to acknowledge and foster cultural awareness and diversity; and

WHEREAS, The Monarch Awards Foundation's major fundraiser is the annual Monarch Awards Gala; all profits from the Gala are used to provide scholarships and donations to other non-profit agencies to assist them in their service to the community; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the members of the Monarch Awards Foundation of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated's Xi Nu Omega Chapter on the occasion of hosting its 28th Annual Monarch Awards Gala and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the members of Monarch Award Foundation as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
