AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 5590

2     AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 5590 by replacing
3 everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4     "Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5 Section 3-611.7 as follows:
 
6     (625 ILCS 5/3-611.7 new)
7     Sec. 3-611.7. Retired Fire Chief license plates.
8     (a) As used in this Section, "retired fire chief" means a
9 person who has served as the fire chief of a municipal fire
10 department or fire protection district and has retired as fire
11 chief from the municipal fire department or fire protection
12 district.
13     (b) The Secretary, upon receipt of a request from a retired
14 fire chief, accompanied by an application and the appropriate
15 fee, may issue, to a retired fire chief special registration
16 plates designated as Retired Fire Chief license plates. The

1 special plates issued under this Section shall be affixed only
2 to passenger vehicles of the first division or motor vehicles
3 of the second division weighing not more than 8,000 pounds,
4 owned by the retired fire chief. Plates issued under this
5 Section shall expire according to the multi-year procedure
6 established by Section 3-414.1 of this Code.
7     (c) The design and color of the special plates shall be
8 wholly within the discretion of the Secretary. The plates are
9 not required to designate "Land of Lincoln" as prescribed in
10 subsection (b) of Section 3-412 of this Code. The Secretary may
11 prescribe rules governing the requirements and approval of the
12 special plates. The fee for this plate for a vehicle owned by
13 the retired fire chief shall be the same as the fee prescribed
14 for first division vehicles in Section 3-806 of this Code.

16     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
17 becoming law.".
