| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The Manito area has been known for its leadership | 3 |
| in agricultural production for over 150 years; and
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, Manito, located in Mason County, is the gateway to | 5 |
| the "Imperial Valley of the Midwest" and a portal to the | 6 |
| Illinois River Byway; and
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, The Manito area is known for its agriculture, | 8 |
| outstanding farmers, tradition, and economic possibility; and
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, The farm area surrounding Manito is located in the | 10 |
| heart of Illinois with highly fertile soil, controlled growing | 11 |
| conditions, and a virtually unlimited water supply to allow for | 12 |
| extensive irrigation; and
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, The Manito area farmers are noted for their | 14 |
| ability to diversify their production, from pumpkins to | 15 |
| popcorn; and
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Manito and its surrounding area have always been | 17 |
| known for its hard-working, hometown people; and | 18 |
| WHEREAS, Manito is celebrating its founding with a | 19 |
| Sesquicentennial Celebration to Agriculture - Then and Now on |

| Saturday, August 2, 2008; therefore, be it
| 2 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 3 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 4 |
| designate August 2, 2008 as Agriculture Day with a salute to | 5 |
| Manito Area Farmers and the Manito Area Regional Economic | 6 |
| Development; and be it further
| 7 |
| RESOLVED, That we salute the farmers of the Manito area and | 8 |
| the Manito Area Regional Economic Development (MARED) for their | 9 |
| outstanding work in growing the products that feed countless | 10 |
| individuals throughout this State, the nation, and the world at | 11 |
| large; and be it further | 12 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 13 |
| presented to the Manito Area Regional Economic Development as a | 14 |
| symbol of our esteem and respect.
