| AN ACT concerning education.
| 2 |
| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| 3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
| 4 |
| Section 5. The University of Illinois Act is amended by | 5 |
| changing Section 9 as follows:
| 6 |
| (110 ILCS 305/9) (from Ch. 144, par. 30)
| 7 |
| Sec. 9. Scholarships for children of veterans. For each of | 8 |
| the following
periods of hostilities, each county shall be | 9 |
| entitled, annually, to one
honorary scholarship in the | 10 |
| University, for the benefit of the children of
persons who | 11 |
| served in the armed forces of the United States: the
Civil War, | 12 |
| World War I, any time between September 16, 1940 and the
| 13 |
| termination of World War II, any time during the national | 14 |
| emergency
between June 25, 1950 and January 31, 1955, any time | 15 |
| during the Viet
Nam conflict between January 1, 1961 and May 7, | 16 |
| 1975, and any
time on or after August 2, 1990 and until | 17 |
| Congress or the President orders that
persons in service are no | 18 |
| longer eligible for
the Southwest Asia Service Medal , Operation | 19 |
| Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom . Preference | 20 |
| shall be
given to the children of persons who are deceased or
| 21 |
| disabled. Such scholarships shall be
granted to such pupils as | 22 |
| shall, upon public examination, conducted as
the board of | 23 |
| trustees of the University may determine, be decided to
have |

| attained the greatest proficiency in the branches of learning
| 2 |
| usually taught in the secondary schools, and who shall be of | 3 |
| good moral
character, and not less than 15 years of age. Such | 4 |
| pupils, so selected,
shall be entitled to receive, without | 5 |
| charge for tuition, instruction in
any or all departments of | 6 |
| the University for a term of at least 4
consecutive years. Such | 7 |
| pupils shall conform, in all respects, to the
rules and | 8 |
| regulations of the University, established for the government
| 9 |
| of the pupils in attendance.
