| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the | 3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate Captain Dennis E. | 4 |
| Sloman of Pleasant Plains on the occasion of his retirement | 5 |
| after 27 years of service in law enforcement; and
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy at | 7 |
| Quantico, Virginia, the 183rd Session; Sangamon State | 8 |
| University in Springfield, where he received a B.A. in social | 9 |
| justice; and Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, | 10 |
| where he received an A.A. in pre-law; and
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, He has been a member of the Illinois State Police | 12 |
| since March 25, 1979, and has held the following positions: | 13 |
| Cadet (Class # 61, Class President); Trooper (District 9 and | 14 |
| 14); Sergeant (Squad Leader), District 9; Sergeant | 15 |
| (Investigator), Internal Investigations; Master Sergeant | 16 |
| (Squad Leader), Internal Investigations; Assistant Area | 17 |
| Commander, Internal Investigations; District 9 Investigations | 18 |
| Commander; Bureau Chief - Strategic Planning and Analysis | 19 |
| Bureau; District 18 Commander; Assistant Deputy Director, | 20 |
| Internal Investigations; and District 9 Commander; his | 21 |
| promotions include Trooper First Class, Master Trooper, | 22 |
| Sergeant, Master Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain; and
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, He has been honored by the State Police for his | 24 |
| work with the Medal of Valor, the Meritorious Service Award (3 | 25 |
| Awards), the Commendation Award (2 Awards), the Department Unit | 26 |
| Citation, the Department Special Detail Service Award, and the | 27 |
| Physical Fitness Ribbon with Gold Star; and
| 28 |
| WHEREAS, Prior to working with the ISP, he was employed by | 29 |
| the FBI from July of 1971 to March of 1979, where he worked as | 30 |
| support personnel; he valiantly served our country as a member | 31 |
| of the Illinois Air National Guard for over 26 years, retiring |

| with the rank of Captain; in 1992, he was one of twelve unit | 2 |
| members selected to observe and assist a NATO Tactical | 3 |
| Evaluation Inspection at Skrydstrup AFB in Denmark; and
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, He was a member of the Illinois National Guard | 5 |
| combat rifle and pistol team, allowing him to represent | 6 |
| Illinois in national matches against the nation's best shooters | 7 |
| from the Armed Forces, and he was team captain and a shooting | 8 |
| member of the third place national team at the Secretary of the | 9 |
| Army Combat Arms Matches at Ft. Benning, Georgia, in 1992; he | 10 |
| earned many other honors, including the Master Security Police | 11 |
| Badge, the Senior Civil Engineer Badge, the Air Force | 12 |
| Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, | 13 |
| the Air Force Achievement Award, the Air Force Outstanding Unit | 14 |
| Award, the Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal with 4 | 15 |
| Oak Leaves, the National Defense Service Medal, the | 16 |
| Humanitarian Service Medal, the Air Force Longevity Service | 17 |
| Ribbon with 5 Oak Leaves, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, the | 18 |
| Small Arms Expert Marksman Ribbon with device (M-16 and 9mm), | 19 |
| the Air Force Training Ribbon with 1 Oak Leaf, the Illinois | 20 |
| Long and Honorable Service with 4 Oak Leaves, the Illinois | 21 |
| Military Attendance Ribbon with "12" device, the State Active | 22 |
| Duty Ribbon, and the USAF/Director of Civilian Marksmanship | 23 |
| (DCM) Bronze Medal; and
| 24 |
| WHEREAS, He is a member of numerous professional | 25 |
| organizations including the FBI National Academy Associates; | 26 |
| the FBI National Academy, Railsplitter Division; the Illinois | 27 |
| Law Enforcement Intelligence Network, Area Board of Directors; | 28 |
| the Central Illinois Chiefs of Police; the Central Illinois | 29 |
| Association of Law Enforcement Executives; the Fraternal Order | 30 |
| of Police, Lodge 41; the
Illinois State Police Command Officers | 31 |
| Association; the National Guard Association, Life Member; the | 32 |
| National Guard Association of Illinois, Life Member; the Blue | 33 |
| Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle (Chapter XV | 34 |
| charter member and past chapter president); and the National |

| Rifle Association, Life Member; and
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, Captain Sloman, the son of Nelvin and Ida Sloman, | 3 |
| has been married to his wife, Nancy, for 32 years; he is the | 4 |
| father of Tyler (wife, Samantha) and Amanda and is the proud | 5 |
| grandfather of Alexander; he enjoys camping, hiking, | 6 |
| traveling, hunting, fishing, motorcycles, and reading in his | 7 |
| spare time; therefore, be it
| 8 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 9 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 10 |
| we congratulate Captain Sloman on the occasion of his | 11 |
| retirement, and we commend him on his exceptional career | 12 |
| dedicated to protecting the safety of our citizens; and be it | 13 |
| further

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 15 |
| presented to Captain Sloman as an expression of our gratitude | 16 |
| for his many years of service and with best wishes for a | 17 |
| relaxing retirement.
