 1                    AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1638

 2        AMENDMENT NO.     .  Amend Senate Bill 1638 by  replacing
 3    the title with the following:
 4        "AN ACT in relation to public employee benefits."; and

 5    by  replacing  everything  after the enacting clause with the
 6    following:

 7        "Section 5.  The Public Safety Employee Benefits  Act  is
 8    amended by adding Section 3 as follows:

 9        (820 ILCS 320/3 new)
10        Sec.  3.  Definition.   For the purposes of this Act, the
11    term "firefighter" includes, without limitation,  a  licensed
12    emergency medical technician (EMT) who is a sworn member of a
13    public fire department.

14        Section  99.  Effective date.  This Act takes effect upon
15    becoming law.".
