1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The City of Hometown was built by J.E. Merion as
3 a community for men returning from service in World War II;
4 the first home was built in 1949 and the town began filling
5 up with service men; and
6 WHEREAS, Hometown consists of 1,546 duplex homes, 384
7 co-op apartments, and four privately owned apartment
8 buildings; the community has two schools, Our Lady of Loretto
9 Roman Catholic Grade School and Hometown Elementary School,
10 kindergarten through sixth grade; Hometown has two shopping
11 centers, three parks, a public library, a Fire Protection
12 District with volunteer paid on call firefighters; and
13 WHEREAS, There are many original owners still living in
14 Hometown as well as many third and fourth generation
15 families; a concept important to Hometown is that of
16 neighbor; and
17 WHEREAS, The city government consists of a Mayor, City
18 Clerk, City Treasurer, and 10 Aldermen; there is a full-time
19 Police Department with a full-time Chief and over 30
20 part-time patrol men and women; and
21 WHEREAS, The City of Hometown survived the tornado and
22 snow storm of 1967 by pulling together as a community and
23 helping one another; several current members of the city
24 administration were born and raised in Hometown; therefore,
25 be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
28 we congratulate the City of Hometown on the occasion of its
29 50th anniversary on June 6, 2003; and be it further
30 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
31 presented to Donald L. Roberton, Mayor of the City of

2 best wishes for the continued success of the community.
