SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Raymond P. Pieroni of McHenry, who passed
4away on April 6, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Raymond Pieroni was born on June 17, 1923, in
6Chicago; his parents were Ernesto and Teresa Pieroni; he
7married Mabel D. Pioli on January 13, 1951; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Raymond Pieroni served his country as a member of
9the United States Navy during World War II; he served in the
10western Pacific as a gunner's mate aboard the USS Maddox and
11was severely injured when the Maddox was struck by a kamikaze
12aircraft on January 21, 1945; he received the World War II
13Victory Medal and a Purple Heart for his service; and
 
14    WHEREAS, While living in Chicago, Raymond Pieroni spent his
15summers in McHenry for many years before moving to McHenry with
16his family in 1949; he and his family founded and operated the
17original Bimbo's restaurant since 1949; after flourishing as a
18popular restaurant in McHenry for many years, the family
19operation was sold in 1988; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Raymond Pieroni enjoyed many Navy reunions
21throughout the years and was a member of the American Legion

1Post 491 and VFW Post 4600 in McHenry; he was also a member of
2St. Patrick Catholic Church in McHenry, Moose Lodge 691 in
3McHenry, and Woodstock Elk Lodge 1143; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Raymond Pieroni and his wife received recognition
5by a national company and local publications for their
6Christmas decorations and design and for promoting family
7traditions during the holidays; he was a gifted handyman and
8enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his loving family;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Raymond Pieroni was preceded in death by his
11parents; his wife, Mabel; and his brother, Ernest "Jr."; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Raymond Pieroni is survived by his children, Renee
13(Michael) Carberry, Denise Pieroni, and Raymond (Nancy)
14Pieroni; his grandchildren, Brian Carberry, Derek Pack, Daniel
15Carberry, Kevin Pack, Elizabeth Pieroni, Caitlin Pieroni, and
16Michaela Pieroni; his brother, Edward; his sister, Diana
17(Chuck) Tonyan; and his sister-in-law, Julie; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
20his family and friends, the passing of Raymond P. Pieroni; and
21be it further

2presented to the family of Raymond Pieroni as an expression of
3our sympathy.
