SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Goldie Hershman of Joliet, who passed away on September 21, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Goldie Hershman studied at Northwestern University and at Chicago Teachers College, where she received her master's degree in Education; and

WHEREAS, Goldie Hershman began teaching in Chicago and Maywood; she relocated with her husband to Joliet and taught at Marycrest School for 23 years; she also taught Sunday school at the synagogue for many years and tutored and mentored World War II survivors who came to the Will County area; and

WHEREAS, Goldie Hershman has been an active member of the Silver Cross Celebrity Spotlight Visitation and Aid Society, the Women of Rotary, the Joliet Education Association, the Jewish Congregation Sisterhood and Hadassah, and has been a Community Trustee of Silver Cross Hospital; in 2007, she was recognized with Lewis University's DeLaSalle Award; and

WHEREAS, Goldie Hershman was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Rabbi Morris M. Hershman; and

WHEREAS, Goldie Hershman is the loving mother of Josh (Kerry) Hershman and Naomi Hershman and the devoted grandmother of Jenny (Blake) Contant and Ben Hershman; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Goldie Hershman, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Goldie Hershman as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
