SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Mary L. Haynes of Peoria, who passed away on November 26, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Mary Haynes was born to Silas and Lydia (Steiner) Hohulin in Peoria Heights on July 17, 1942; and

WHEREAS, Mary Haynes was the first female elected as the Peoria City Clerk/Town Clerk and enjoyed the privilege of working for the citizens of Peoria from 1985 to 2012; one of her most satisfying roles was to chair the "Rediscovering City Hall" project, which brought the Peoria City Hall back to its former glory; and

WHEREAS, Mary Haynes was a longtime member of Grace Presbyterian Church but recently enjoyed attending services with her family at Great Oaks Community Church; she placed her faith at the forefront of her life, followed by family and then friends; and

WHEREAS, Mary Haynes loved spending time with her family and friends, playing bridge and golf, attending the Peoria Symphony, and writing poetry; she also loved teaching Sunday school and speaking on topics in the Clerk's profession; she enjoyed watching Bradley Braves basketball, Cubs baseball, and her grandsons' sporting events; she was a devoted mother and grandmother; and

WHEREAS, Mary Haynes was preceded in death by her three brothers, Martin, Al, and Vern; her sister, Ruth Huthmann; her brothers-in-law, George Huthmann and Silas Knobloch; and her dear sisters-in-law, Mary Kay (Schupp) Hohulin and Shirley (Leman) Hohulin; and

WHEREAS, Mary Haynes is survived by her son, Eric (Theresa) Haynes; her daughter, Kris Hohulin; her two grandchildren, Calvin Haynes and Alex (Mercedes) Haynes; her great-granddaughter, Hope; her many nieces and nephews; her sister, Edith Knobloch; her brothers, Ben (Lynette) Hohulin and Melvin Hohulin; and her sisters-in-law, Marie Hohulin and Marty Kupfer; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Mary L. Haynes and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mary Haynes as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
