HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Isaiah
4Phillip Woods, who passed away on May 23, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Isaiah Woods was born to Anthony Phillip Woods
6and Yvette Williams on September 6, 1990; he received his
7primary education from Trinity United Church of Christ Child
8Care, Evangelical Christian School, and Matteson School
9District 162, where he was in the gifted program from the first
10through eighth grades; he graduated from Marian Catholic High
11School with high honors and Howard University with a Bachelor
12of Business Administration in Actuarial Science Insurance with
13high honors; he was on Howard University's Dean's List; he
14continued his insurance education at DePaul University, where
15he completed a variety of master's degree courses in risk
16management; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Isaiah Woods had previously worked in his
18elementary school's store; he worked at Fortune 100 Companies,
19including Wintrust, Lloyds of London, McAdam Financially
20Advanced, AGB Investigative Services, and Walgreens; he was
21also an entrepreneur who created music beats and had his own
22clothing line; and

1    WHEREAS, Isaiah Woods served on the Lloyds of London
2Executive Board and the TR2 Non-Profit Executive Board; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Isaiah Woods was a lifelong member of Trinity
4United Church of Christ (TUCC) in Chicago; he was active in the
5Little Warriors for Christ Ministry, the Imani Choir Ministry,
6the Martial Arts Ministry, the Math Tutorial Ministry, the
7Adopt-A-Student Ministry, the Youth Ministry, and the Media
8Ministry; he played with the Matteson-Olympia Fields baseball
9team and several other baseball and basketball teams for over
10nine years; he was a member of his junior high school's book
11club, chess club, and math club; he was a member of Marian
12Catholic High School's math club, football team, and wrestling
13team; while in college, he was a member of Howard University's
14School of Business: Executive Leadership Honors Program and
15was a Howard 2lst Career Awareness Program team leader; he was
16captain of Howard's baseball team and was a member of the
17student consulting group, the real estate club, and the
18finance club; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Isaiah Woods partook in numerous internships,
20including the President Barack Obama's Office of Presidential
21Correspondence internship, the FDIC Federal Deposit Insurance
22Corporation internship, the Deloitte Advisory Enterprise Risk
23Services internship, the Aon internship, the Grainger
24internship, Harvard University's Summer Venue Internship

1Program in Boston, Massachusetts, and the Boward University
2Center for Insurance Education Summer Internship in New York;
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, Isaiah Woods was a Bill and Melinda Gates
5Millennium Scholar and was featured on the Suburban Issues
6television program as an honor roll student, representing
7Matteson School District 162; in addition, he received a
8multitude of other awards and scholarships, including TUCC's
9Dr. Manford Byrd Award, TUCC's Lucille Ellison/Kathryn Brown
10Memorial Scholarship, a United Negro College Fund scholarship,
11a Foundation for Agency Management Excellence Insurance
12scholarship, a Chade Foundation Scholarship, a Junior
13Achievement scholarship, a Park National Bank scholarship, a
14Ron Brown scholarship, a N'DIGO Foundation, a National African
15American Insurance Association scholarship, and a Kevin Kaplan
16Foundation scholarship; he was also on the high honor roll and
17received a perfect attendance award, an art award, a
18Principal's Award for receiving straight A's all four
19quarters, a math award, a Spanish award, a Wolf-Outstanding
20Effort award, a Pride-Outstanding Behavior award, a reading
21award, and a writers workshop award; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Isaiah Woods enjoyed traveling, listening to
23music, and spending time with friends; he loved playing
24baseball and basketball, starting at the age nine; and

1    WHEREAS, Isaiah Woods was preceded in death by his
2grandparents, Henry and Minnie Williams, and his aunt, Marie
3Williams Baskin; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Isaiah Woods is survived by his parents; his
5brother, Joshua Woods; his aunts, Debra Ann Williams Warthon,
6Sharon Woods, Francesca Woods, Francheska Woods, Sheila
7(Jackie) Holloway, Olga Woods, Mary Woods, and Gwen Woods; his
8uncles, James, Samson, Spencer, Jamie (Pam), and Orlando
9(Tianna); his great-uncles, Edward (Alvie) Barlow and James
10(Beverly) Barlow; his great-aunts, Helen Barlow, Mamie
11Williams, and Corine Croon; his cousins, Ricky Williams,
12Jamari Baskin, Latoya Warthon, Karechia Wallace Warthon, and
13Alissa Rickia Williams; numerous his other cousins; his
14godfather, Larry Smith; his godmother, Laurinia Ford; and
15numerous other relatives and friends; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
17HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18we mourn the passing of Isaiah Phillip Woods and extend our
19sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
20and loved him; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Isaiah Woods as an expression of our
