HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Mildred Bowden on the occasion of her 100th birthday on April 8, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Mildred Bowden was born in Apex, North Carolina on April 8, 1921; she was 18 months old when she arrived in Chicago; she has been a lifelong resident of the South Side of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Mildred Bowden worked at the Rhumboggie Cafe on 55th Street, which was owned by boxing great Joe Louis; she also worked as an intake supervisor at Cook County Hospital for 30 years; and

WHEREAS, In her lifetime, Mildred Bowden has seen 19 presidents, 18 governors, and 16 mayors; her favorite president is Theodore Roosevelt, because she feels that every American benefited from his service; and

WHEREAS, Mildred Bowden has been a faithful member and fundraiser at Christ Universal Temple; she loves celebrating Christmas and served her family Christmas dinner for 50 years; and

WHEREAS, Mildred Bowden is the mother of Hermene Hartman; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Mildred Bowden on celebrating her 100th birthday, and we wish her many more happy and healthy years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mildred Bowden as an expression of our esteem and respect.
