SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Robert L. "Bob" Cassens of Prophetstown, who passed away on December 5, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Bob Cassens was born in Sterling to LeRoy "Red" and Lena Beck Cassens on September 2, 1926; he was educated in the Hume and Tampico grade schools and graduated from Tampico High School in 1944; after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Pacific during World War II; he married Geraldine Koehler on January 8, 1945; and

WHEREAS, In his early years. Bob Cassens worked with his father at Cassens' Hydraulic in Tampico; he also worked with Dever Construction, where he built homes in the Prophetstown and Tampico areas; he and Geraldine then farmed in Loraine Township in Henry County until their retirement; and

WHEREAS, Bob Cassens served as the Loraine Township Supervisor and on the Henry County Board in the 1960s and 1970s; he was a member of the Tampico Historical Society, the Tampico Alumni Association, the Henry County Farm Bureau, and the First Lutheran Church in Prophetstown; he enjoyed farming, working in his shop, traveling, and camping with his wife; he especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Bob Cassens was preceded in death by his sisters, Marian Meyer and Beverly Berge; and

WHEREAS, Bob Cassens is survived by his wife, Geraldine; his son, James (Nancy) Cassens; his daughters, Vicky (Steve) Vandike and Susan (Randy) Skelton; his six grandchildren; and his six great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Robert L. "Bob" Cassens and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bob Cassens as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
