SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Frank G. "Beaver" Schwartz Jr. of
4Springfield, who passed away on October 19, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Frank Schwartz Jr. was born in Springfield to
6Frank and Margaret (Kenner) Schwartz on February 24, 1934; he
7grew up on South 13th Street and spent most of his free time on
8the neighborhood baseball diamond; he turned his pitching
9skills into a full scholarship to the University of Illinois,
10where he held the earned run average record for over ten years;
11as a senior, he was awarded the Ma-Wan-Da Award for leadership
12both on and off of the field; before graduating in 1958, he
13spent two years playing baseball for the United States Army in
14Okinawa; he was married to Fran (Fuhrwerk) Schwartz for 57
15years; they raised a large family, moved to the country,
16learned to farm, traveled the world together, and threw
17legendary parties; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Frank Schwartz Jr. had a long career in the
19insurance business; he was an agent with New England Life,
20Connecticut Mutual Life, National Financial Partners, and
21achieved Emeritus status with MassMutual; his achievements
22included being Top of the Table with the Million Dollar Round
23Table and qualifying as a Million Dollar Round Table member for

151 continuous years; he loved the insurance business because he
2could care for his clients like family; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Frank Schwartz Jr. co-founded and served as
4president of the Springfield Caps in the 1960s; he helped to
5reactivate the Springfield U of I Alumni Association and served
6on the U of I Alumni Association Board; in 2016, he was
7inducted into the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame; he served on
8the Springfield Diocese Advisory Board, the Advisory Board of
9the Cilco Gas Company, the Washington Park Children's
10Playground Fundraising Committee, and the Advisory Board of the
11Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln; he was a founding
12member of the St. Patrick's School Board, a member of the
13American Business Club, the American Legion, and the Sangamo
14Club; he was an active member of St. Agnes Catholic Church,
15where he served as the self-appointed door greeter; he also
16served on the St. Agnes Building Committee and was a
17Eucharistic Minister; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Frank Schwartz Jr. taught his family to enjoy
19every moment, always save room for dessert, and to never take
20no for an answer; he was big-hearted, kind, and generous; he
21never knew a stranger, and he deeply loved his friends; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Frank Schwartz Jr. was preceded in death by his
23parents; his wife, Fran; and his son, Paul Schwartz; and

1    WHEREAS, Frank Schwartz Jr. is survived by his sister, Mary
2Ann Wood; his sister-in-law, Barbara J. Fuhrwerk; his children,
3Cathy (John Shafer) Schwartz, Paula (Mike) Ryan, Ann (Nick)
4Luff, Ed (Renee) Schwartz, and Jean (Chuck) Weiss; his
5grandchildren, Shelley (Zach) Brown, Katie (Drew) deMarco,
6Lauren Weiss, Chris (Philicia) Ryan, Andrew Weiss, Danny
7Schwartz, Elle Ryan, Joey Schwartz, Emma Shafer, and Matthew
8Weiss; his great-grandchildren, Emma Brown, Carter deMarco,
9Leo deMarco, Ava Brown, and Henry deMarco; and his companion
10and friend on many adventures, Nancy Smith; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Frank G. "Beaver" Schwartz Jr. and extend our sincere
14condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
15him; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Frank Schwartz Jr. as an expression
18of our deepest sympathy.
