SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Margaret Jean (Paulsen) Young of Waukegan, who passed away on July 9, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Margaret Young was born in Manistique, Michigan in 1929; she grew up in Brimley, Michigan, and her family later moved to Illinois; she graduated from Zion-Benton High School; she took aviation lessons while in high school, owned a Harley Davidson motorcycle, and won a joint motorcycle race in 1949; while working full-time, she earned her associate's degree from the College of Lake County, her bachelor's degree from Northwestern University in 1979, and her Master of Business Administration from the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management; she recently hosted her 47th high school reunion in her home; and

WHEREAS, Margaret Young served the City of Waukegan for over 20 years, initially as the Deputy Clerk and then later as Waukegan's City Collector; and

WHEREAS, Margaret Young founded the Waukegan Women's City Club and served as its president; she was an active member of the Lake County Chapter of the American Business Women's Association (ABWA) and served on the boards for the YWCA and the Salvation Army; she organized and participated in the XYZingers group; for many years, she attended Calvary Temple Church, and she later attended St. John's Church of Christ in Waukegan; she was an active member of book clubs and the Merry Widows Club, and she enjoyed meeting her fellow Waukegan City Hall retirees at luncheons; she enjoyed tracing her ancestry and traveling internationally with friends and family; she loved life and was fiercely loyal; and

WHEREAS, Margaret Young was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Travis; and

WHEREAS, Margaret Young is survived by her son, William (Stephanie) Young; her grandchildren, Rachel, Rebecca, and Jonathan Young; her siblings, Dorothy, Robert, Harold, and Richard; her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews; and her many friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Margaret Jean (Paulsen) Young and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Margaret Young as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
