SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Margaret Jean (Paulsen) Young of
4Waukegan, who passed away on July 9, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Margaret Young was born in Manistique, Michigan in
61929; she grew up in Brimley, Michigan, and her family later
7moved to Illinois; she graduated from Zion-Benton High School;
8she took aviation lessons while in high school, owned a Harley
9Davidson motorcycle, and won a joint motorcycle race in 1949;
10while working full-time, she earned her associate's degree from
11the College of Lake County, her bachelor's degree from
12Northwestern University in 1979, and her Master of Business
13Administration from the Lake Forest Graduate School of
14Management; she recently hosted her 47th high school reunion in
15her home; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Margaret Young served the City of Waukegan for
17over 20 years, initially as the Deputy Clerk and then later as
18Waukegan's City Collector; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Margaret Young founded the Waukegan Women's City
20Club and served as its president; she was an active member of
21the Lake County Chapter of the American Business Women's
22Association (ABWA) and served on the boards for the YWCA and

1the Salvation Army; she organized and participated in the
2XYZingers group; for many years, she attended Calvary Temple
3Church, and she later attended St. John's Church of Christ in
4Waukegan; she was an active member of book clubs and the Merry
5Widows Club, and she enjoyed meeting her fellow Waukegan City
6Hall retirees at luncheons; she enjoyed tracing her ancestry
7and traveling internationally with friends and family; she
8loved life and was fiercely loyal; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Margaret Young was preceded in death by her
10husband of 48 years, Travis; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Margaret Young is survived by her son, William
12(Stephanie) Young; her grandchildren, Rachel, Rebecca, and
13Jonathan Young; her siblings, Dorothy, Robert, Harold, and
14Richard; her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and
15grandnephews; and her many friends; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Margaret Jean (Paulsen) Young and extend our sincere
19condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
20her; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Margaret Young as an expression of
