SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Clyde W. Jones of Bethalto, who passed away on April 16, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Clyde Jones was born in Alton to Clyde J. and Chlorene (Kirk) Jones on August 2, 1938; he married Wilma "JoAnn" Elkins in Alton on June 14, 1957; and

WHEREAS, Clyde Jones retired as CEO of the 102nd Army Reserve Command in St. Louis after 30 years of civil service; he also served in the United States Army reserve for 36 years; after retirement, he served as a Missouri State Ambassador for the Army Reserves and a volunteer for the Employee Support of the Guard Reserve (ESGR) Program; and

WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, Clyde Jones was on the board of the St. Louis Regional Airport and had orchestrated the Memorial Day Parade in Bethalto for the last 20 years; he had served on the Unit 8 School Board from 1964 until 1986, was a Village Trustee from 1982 until 1986, and a member of the Alton Vocational Advisory Board from 1970 until 1986; he also served on the Madison County School Board and the Police/Fire Commission Board; he was a member of the Bethalto Rotary Club, where he served as District Governor from 1991 until 1992; in 1985, he and his brothers purchased WBGZ; he was active in the Bethalto United Methodist Church and the Cemetery; he always strived to be the first voter in elections and arrived at six a.m.; and

WHEREAS, Clyde Jones was preceded in death by his parents; the mother who raised him, Ruth (Wood) Dresch; his son, Skip Jones; his great-grandson, Dominic Whitaker; and his brothers, George, Don, Louis, and Chuck Dreith; and

WHEREAS, Clyde Jones is survived by his wife, JoAnn; his children, Jill (Scott) Hamilton and Jeff (Melissa) Jones; his grandchildren, Jennifer Whitaker, Jason Arnold, Sarah (Randy) Naylor, Seth Jones, Sadie Jones, and Casse (Trevor) Shaw; his great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jalynn, Delilah, Jaeda, and Mason; and his sisters, Mary Lou (Gary) Lockard and Ruth Ann (Lowell) Reeves; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Clyde W. Jones and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Clyde Jones as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
