SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Michael Miller Morrissey of Godfrey, who
4passed away on November 15, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Michael Morrissey was born in Alton to Edmund
6Miller and Therese (Trixie) Louise Morrissey on June 17, 1951;
7he graduated from Alton High School in 1969 and married Linda
8Newby on April 1, 1970; he earned a degree in Business
9Administration from the University of Miami in 1973; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Michael Morrissey followed in his father's
11footsteps and was an entrepreneur; he opened Morrissey
12Construction Company of Missouri, an extension of his family's
13business, Morrissey Construction Company, in 1973; he was
14instrumental in developing the first condominium conversion
15project along the Lake of the Ozarks; upon successful
16completion of this project, he returned home to assist in the
17cultivation and growth of Morrissey Construction Company; he
18became President of Morrissey Construction Company in 2010 and
19served in this role until his passing; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Michael Morrissey oversaw and participated in the
21completion of more than 15,000 housing units, retail outlets,
22churches, schools, institutional facilities for the

1developmentally disabled, and law enforcement headquarters;
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, Michael Morrissey had a love for all things St.
4Louis, fishing, and coins; he shared these interests with his
5friends and loved ones, and he often commemorated the important
6dates of his family and friends by giving rare coins; he loved
7vacationing, particularly to locations that included a beach
8with a deep-sea fishing boat harbor nearby; he attended many
9Cardinals and Rams games, including when they played in the
10World Series and Superbowl; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Michael Morrissey rarely missed an opportunity to
12cheer those he loved; he made frequent doughnut deliveries to
13his grandchildren's homes on weekend mornings; his infectious
14and fun personality was highlighted when he was surrounded by
15his loved ones; his kindness, patience, and empathy will be
16greatly missed and forever remembered; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Michael Morrissey was preceded in death by his
18parents; his father-in-law, Bill Newby; his mother-in-law,
19Betty Newby; his brother-in-law, Michael Newby; and his
20sister-in-law, Theresa Harpole; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Michael Morrissey is survived by his wife, Linda;
22his children, Michael Jr. (Amanda), Vanessa (Randy) Bassett,

1and Ryan (Sara); his grandchildren, Konnor, Kollin, Karson,
2Kooper, Madison Bassett, Isabelle Bassett, Shane, Caroline,
3and Vivienne; his siblings, Ed Jr. (Patty), Barbara (Michael)
4McGrew, Tom (Laurie), Jim, Joe, John, Teri (Dean) Holland, Dan
5(Kimara), Patrick, and Kathy (Kurt) Brandt; his sisters and
6brothers-in-law, Patti (Frank) Hughes, Noreen Newcome Newby,
7Kathy (Terry) Bristow, Nancy (John) Magurany, William (Anna)
8Newby, and Randy (Guillermo) Newby; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Michael Miller Morrissey and extend our sincere condolences to
12his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Michael Morrissey as an expression
16of our deepest sympathy.
