HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Solorio Academy High School boys soccer team, the Sun Warriors, on winning the school's first Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class 3A State Championship on November 4, 2017; and

WHEREAS, The Sun Warriors clinched the title after a seven-game state tournament run in which the team outscored their opponents 31 to 5; and

WHEREAS, Solorio Academy High School, located in the West Gage Park community, opened in 2010 and was named after Eric Solorio (1979-2006), a former member of the Chicago Police Department's elite anti-gang unit; the soccer team quickly found success under Coach Adrian Calleros; and

WHEREAS, This year, the Sun Warriors played a competitive schedule against several schools, including Bradley-Bourbonnais, Cicero Morton, Nequa Valley, and Plainfield Central; and

WHEREAS, The Sun Warriors defeated Noble Street Bulls Prep by a score of 3 to 2 in the sectional finals and Bremen 1 to 0 in the super sectional to earn a trip to the state finals; and

WHEREAS, The Sun Warriors soundly defeated Gibault Catholic 6 to 0 in the finals, and throughout the game, showcased the star power of their young strikers and an impressive blend of solid play from their senior class members; and

WHEREAS, The victory celebration included passing around jersey number 23, which once belonged to Christian Morales, a Solorio soccer player who passed away in the summer of 2016 following a tragic boating accident; his memory lives on in the official state championship photograph in which his teammates proudly hold up his jersey; and

WHEREAS, The Sun Warriors will officially be presented with their championship rings at a ceremony to be held on February 18, 2018; and

WHEREAS, The athletic skill, competitive spirit, and remarkable dedication of the Sun Warriors serves as an example to all; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Solorio Academy High School's boys soccer team, the Sun Warriors, on winning the 2017 Illinois High School Association Class 3A State Championship, and we extend our warmest wishes for their continued success and achievement both on the soccer field and in the classroom; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Coach Adrian Calleros and the outstanding members of the Solorio Sun Warriors.
