HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate St. Peter's Lutheran Church in the Village of St. Peter on the occasion of its 150th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, In the 1860s, settlers in Southeast Fayette County founded St. Peters when they employed Pastor J.F. Schnurre to conduct services every other week; the fledgling congregation signed a charter to officially organize a church congregation on January 8, 1869; and

WHEREAS, On May 25, 1869, Samuel Fogler donated land to the congregation and a small church, park, and parsonage were built; several years later, a school was established and still operates today as St. Peter's Lutheran School; and

WHEREAS, After the congregation outgrew the original building, Anna Borchelt donated land on which a new church was built in 1984; the congregation built again in 1948, and the third church building was dedicated on May 28, 1950; and

WHEREAS, St. Peter's Lutheran Church has been a staple in the Village of St. Peter's since its founding and provides spiritual inspiration, education, and charity to the citizens of the surrounding area; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate St. Peter's Lutheran Church on the occasion of its 150th anniversary; we recognize and respect its long tradition of service and participation in the Village of St. Peter and we wish them many more successful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Reverend Ryan Meyer as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
