HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate their colleague, State
4Rep. Jeanne Ives, on the occasion of her retirement as State
5Representative of the 42nd District; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Rep. Ives grew up in Vermillion, South Dakota and
7graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point
8in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science in Economics; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Rep. Ives served in the U.S. Army until 1993; her
10assignments included platoon leader and headquarters
11detachment commander for transportation units in Germany and
12ROTC instructor at Wheaton College; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Rep. Ives resigned from the Army in 1993 to raise
14her children and work as a tax advisor and bookkeeper for small
15businesses and individuals; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Rep. Ives was elected to the Wheaton City Council
17in 2011; her tenure was marked by conservative leadership and
18an unwavering commitment to the taxpayers' bottom line; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Rep. Ives ran for State Representative in 2012,
20won a competitive Republican primary, and was elected to the

1seat in November; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Rep. Ives took the oath of office as State
3Representative for the 42nd District in January of 2013; among
4her first acts, she refused both a taxpayer-funded pension and
5healthcare; and
 
6    WHEREAS, In her first term, Rep. Ives focused on pension
7and tax reform in the State, term limits for lawmakers,
8government transparency, and school choice; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Rep. Ives served with distinction as a member of
10the Task Force on Veterans' Suicide and the Discharged
11Servicemember Task Force; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Rep. Ives has lived in Wheaton for over 25 years
13with her husband, Paul, who is also a USMA Class of 1987
14graduate, and their five children; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Rep. Ives is a proud parent volunteer at her
16children's schools and has been coaching the St. Michael Boys
17and Girls Championship Cross Country teams for 12 years;
18therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
20HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we

1congratulate State Rep. Jeanne Ives on her retirement, commend
2her for her distinguished service to the 42nd District, and
3wish her the best in all her future endeavors; and be it

5    RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to
6the Honorable Jeanne Ives as a symbol of our esteem and
7respect.
