HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Gallatin County High School on winning the Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering (WYSE) State Championship at the University of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, The Academic Challenge is an annual competition in which schools test at the regional, sectional, and state levels, with teams of 14 members; the competition consists of seven subjects: biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, graphics, English, mathematics, and physics, with each student testing in two subjects; test material is drawn from senior-level high school and freshman-level college curricula; approximately 25 teams and more than 50 individuals competed, representing more than 50 high schools across Illinois; Gallatin County represented Southern Illinois in the 300 Division; and

WHEREAS, This is the third year that the Gallatin County team has won the state championship; the school has been represented at the state level for 18 years; individual medal winners from Gallatin County are Kiley Brown, fourth in biology and David Matthew, fifth in math; and

WHEREAS, This year, the Gallatin County WYSE Team also received first at the Regional Competition, hosted by Southeastern Illinois College, and placed first at the Sectional Competition, hosted by Southern Illinois University Carbondale; and

WHEREAS, The Gallatin County Varsity Team is coached by Lindsay Adams and Billyjoe Menard; and

WHEREAS, The Gallatin County Varsity Team members are Michaela Springer, Kenna Rife, Dylan Boggs, Nathan Shults, Dylan Garrison, Aaron Walters, David Matthews, Kiley Brown, Madison Raymer, Konner Gross, Abbie Keasler, Kallie Keasler, Blake Seely, and Jayde Pennington; and

WHEREAS, The Gallatin County Varsity Team serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Gallatin County Varsity Team on winning the Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering State Championship for the third year, and we wish them many more successful seasons; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Gallatin County High School as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
