HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize Emerson Elementary School on being invited to attend the 10th Annual Our American Voice Summit in Springfield to share their community project with other schools from across the State, meet legislators, and tour the Capitol; and

WHEREAS, Our American Voice begins with the fundamentals of democracy - how government works - and lessons of change distilled from the American Revolution to the civil rights movement and beyond; it takes a critical additional step by teaching students how to apply these lessons to their local communities, form vigorous partnerships with other organizations, and create living projects and campaigns that generate real results; and

WHEREAS, Earlier this year, students organized, monitored and sorted over 220 clothing donations for a local charity to distribute to families in need of warm gear, now, the OAV students are researching the plausibility of installing a new water fountain for the school; and

WHEREAS, Participating in Our American Voice and visiting the Capitol is a memorable learning experience that teaches students the fundamentals of American democracy and helps them work to create positive change in their community; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Emerson Elementary School on being invited to attend the 10th Annual Our American Voice Summit in Springfield to share their community project; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Emerson Elementary School as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
