SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Kenneth O. "Ken" Udehn of Moline, who
4passed away on July 21, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ken Udehn was born in Moline on December 16, 1923
6to Axel and Nellie Safe Udehn; he attended Moline High School
7and married E. Lucille Johnson on April 5, 1947 in Moline; he
8later married Donna Dumolien Parks Atkinson on January 12, 2001
9in Moline; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Ken Udehn worked as a building inspector for the
11City of Moline for 25 years, retiring in August of 1989; prior
12to that, he worked as a carpenter; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Ken Udehn proudly served in the United States Army
14during World War II; he was an accommodated member and Flotilla
15Commander for many years with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary;
16during his time as a Flotilla Commander, he escorted the
17President of the United States on the Mississippi River from
18Dubuque, Iowa to St. Louis, Missouri with a security patrol; he
19was a member of the Moline Veterans of Foreign Wars and the
20Moline American Legion; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Ken Udehn was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran

1Church in Moline and attended Christ the King Catholic Church
2in Moline; he taught an apprentice carpenter class at Black
3Hawk College; he enjoyed fishing, archery, golf, camping, and
4crossword puzzles; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ken Udehn was preceded in death by his parents;
6his first wife, E. Lucille Udehn; his brother, Dr. Carlyle
7Udehn; and his sister, Dorthea Nelson; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Ken Udehn is survived by his wife, Donna; his
9daughters, Fonda Redell and Laura (Tom) Burke; his son, Thomas
10C. Udehn; his 5 grandchildren; his great-grandchild; his 8
11stepchildren, Lynda Parks, Cyndi Klingaman, Dawn Clark, Vickie
12Andersen, Janet Parks, Randy Parks, Sue Klingaman, and John
13Parks; his 16 step-grandchildren; and his 23
14step-great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Kenneth O. "Ken" Udehn, and extend our sincere condolences to
18his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Ken Udehn as an expression of our
22deepest sympathy.
