SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Louis A. "Lou" Baron, who passed away on
4June 19, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lou Baron was born in Toledo, Ohio on April 13,
61918; he graduated from Manley High School in Chicago in 1937;
7he joined the United States Army in 1940 and fought in the
8European Theater, earning the Bronze Star for bravery; he
9married Mary Waldman on March 14, 1943 and was discharged from
10the Army in 1945; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Lou Baron returned to Chicago after the war and
12began working at the Centennial Laundry Company; in 1952, he
13founded the City Scrap Iron Company, which he later sold and
14then repurchased in 2011; he founded the Acme Refining Company
15in 1973 with one truck and 2 employees and it has grown into a
16company with 450 employees and $400 million in sales; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Affectionately known to many as "Papa Lou", Lou
18Baron was still showing up to work in his 90s telling people
19what they were doing wrong; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Lou Baron received the Recycler of the Year Award
21in 2008 from the Illinois Recycling Association; and

1    WHEREAS, Lou Baron was the son of Jenny Strock; the beloved
2husband of Mary Baron (nee Waldman); the loving father of Larry
3(Mary) and Iris; the dear brother of the late Irving, Lillian,
4Peter, and Anne; the loving grandfather of Brett, Lindsey, and
5Alex; and the loving great-grandfather of Brett, Vincent,
6Isabella, and Calvin; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Louis A. "Lou" Baron, and extend our sincere condolences to his
10family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Lou Baron as an expression of our
14deepest sympathy.
