SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of William L. Carter, who passed away on
4June 21, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, William Carter was born in Louisville,
6Mississippi on March 15, 1939 and raised by his mother, Burnise
7Byrd and his stepfather, Jack Byrd; he attended Tougaloo
8College and joined the United States Army, serving from 1960 to
91967; after his service, he graduated from Chicago State
10University with a Bachelor of Science in Education; he then
11attended graduate school at Governor's State University; he
12married Pearlene in October of 1964; and
 
13    WHEREAS, William Carter first worked as a teacher for the
14Chicago Public Schools system; he then worked for the Chicago
15Transit Authority, retiring in 1999 after 25 years of service;
16and
 
17    WHEREAS, William Carter enjoyed traveling with his wife and
18fulfilling his grandpa "duties"; he was an active member of
19Sheldon Heights Church of Christ for over 40 years; and
 
20    WHEREAS, William Carter was preceded in death by his
21mother, Burnise Byrd; his stepfather, Jack Byrd; and his

1sister, Clottie Carter Gladney; and
 
2    WHEREAS, William Carter is survived by his wife, Pearlene;
3his children, Reginald (Tracy) and Melody (Darren); his
4grandchildren, Robert, Michael, Daniel, and Nina; his
5brothers, Jack (Imelda), Earl (Shirrell), and Sam (Denise); his
6best friend, Julia (Roy); and a host of dear family and
7friends; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10William L. Carter, and extend our sincere condolences to his
11family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of William Carter as an expression of
15our deepest sympathy.
