SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dorothy Marie Pitzen of Johnsburg, who passed away on February 18, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy Pitzen was born in Spring Grove on March 23, 1922 to John and Emma Lay; in 1942, she married Joseph Himpelmann in San Francisco, California; after World War II, they settled in Johnsburg; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy Pitzen worked many years for the Barr-Don Corporation in Mount Prospect until she retired; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy Pitzen was involved in many organizations and ministries at St. John the Baptist Church, including the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality, the Welcoming Committee, and Prayer Groups; she was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, serving as an insurance agent; and

WHEREAS, Following the passing of her first husband, Dorothy Pitzen married Paul Pitzen at St. John's in 1986; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy Pitzen was preceded in death by her first and second husbands; her parents; her brother, Leander (Jean Whiting) Lay; her sister, Agnes (Jerry) Klaus; her brother-in-law, Charles "Chuck" Weingart; her sister-in-law, Betty Kilday Lay; Joe's parents, Joseph and Julia Himpelmann; and her sisters-in-law, Kay (Paul) Reindel and Barbara (Melvin) Johnson; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy Pitzen is survived by her sister, Marie Weingart; her brother, Edmund Lay; her children, Richard (Diane), Joel (Carolyn), Mary (Jack) Weightman, Dave (Sue), Betty, Barb (Tom) Kasting, Steve (Sue), and Ron (Karla); Paul's children from his first marriage to Virginia, Joyce (Rex) Coon, Paul, Jr. (Kim), and Loren (Cindy); other survivors include her 19 grandchildren, Danielle (Dave) Klein, Denise (Bryan) Straube, Debbi and fiance, Steve Dolloff, Melissa (Jake) Pereria, Matt (Lorene) Himpelmann, Jodi (Darren) Tate, Michael (Elena) Weightman, Steve (Jen) Weightman, Julie (Mike) Dahlin, Joe (Stacey) Himpelmann, Ann Marie (Alex) Chapman, Andrea (Joe) Hawkinson, Gretchen and Ben Kasting, Lauren Himpelmann and fiance, Matt Starr, Emma and Maddie Himpelmann, Shari (Mark) Norman, and Kevin Himpelmann; her 25 great-grandchildren; her great-great-grandchild on the Himpelmann side of the family; the Pitzen grandchildren, Beth (Josh) Pranger, Brian (Jennifer) Coon, and Christine and Samantha Pitzen; her 8 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Dorothy Marie Pitzen, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dorothy Pitzen as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
