SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of James Mantice, who passed away at the age
4of 92; and
 
5    WHEREAS, James Mantice served as a United States Army
6combat infantryman with the 102nd division in Germany, where he
7was awarded the Bronze Star; and
 
8    WHEREAS, James Mantice spent 40 years in advertising; he
9told friends that his proudest moment was the day he severed
10all ties with a popular cigarette account on the grounds that
11tobacco was a "toxic and nasty business"; and
 
12    WHEREAS, James Mantice was devoted to his family, books,
13and the study of Haiku; his first two volumes made their way to
14Haiku circles in Japan, where they were warmly received; he was
15a member of the St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church; and
 
16    WHEREAS, James Mantice was preceded in death by his
17brother, Tom and his sister, Ann; and
 
18    WHEREAS, James Mantice is survived by his wife, Mimi; his
19son, Peter; his sister, Bess Mermigas; his stepchildren, Greg
20and Lynne Tipsword, David and Diane Rosso, Matthew Rosso, John

1and Christine Frangoulis, and George and Diane Rogers; and his
2grandchildren, Douglas, Amanda, Mitchell, Katie, Hannah, and
3Michael, who affectionately called him "Papou"; therefore, be
4it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7James Mantice, and extend our sincere condolences to his
8family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
9further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of James Mantice as an expression of
12our deepest sympathy.
