SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Rudolph "Rudy" Mahalik Sr. of Joliet, who passed away on December 14, 2016 at the age of 95; and

WHEREAS, Rudolph Mahalik Sr. was born in Joliet where he remained a lifelong resident; he was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in the South Pacific on the USS Savo Island aircraft carrier as a weatherman during World War II; and

WHEREAS, Rudolph Mahalik Sr. was the retired owner of Poehner, Dillman and Mahalik Plumbing Heating and Cooling; he was a member of the Joliet Rotary Club, a former member of the Joliet Noon Lions Club, and a founding member of Crime Stoppers of Will County; he served on the Board of Easter Seals, Joliet City Center Partnership, St. Patrick's Retirement Home, and Crisis Line of Will County; he was president of the Plumbing and Mechanical Contractors Association, and founder and President of the Joliet Eastside Business organization; he also served on various City of Joliet commissions including the Joliet Plan Committee and the Joliet Economic Development Committee; he was honored by the Joliet City Council with the Citizen of the Year Award and by the City of Joliet with a section of Scott Street being named "Rudy Mahalik Way"; he was inducted in the Joliet Project Pride and received the 2008 Joliet Area Historical Society Preservation Award and the Lewis University De La Salle Award; and

WHEREAS, Rudolph Mahalik Sr. was preceded in death by his wife, Isabelle Mahalik; his parents, Michael and Mary (Kucavik) Mahalik; and eight siblings, Mary, Ann (Charles) Wibirt, Josephine, Joseph (Florence), Amelia, Ambrose (Mildred), Frank, and Raymond (Lorraine); and

WHEREAS, Rudolph Mahalik Sr. is survived by his three sons, Rudy (Gerry) Mahalik Jr., Tom Mahalik, and Mark (Hua) Mahalik; his grandchildren, Cathy (Tim) Lindeman, and Jake (Serina) Mahalik; his great-grandchildren, Isabella and Mason Lindeman; his step great-grandchildren, Tayler and Tyler Lindeman; his brother, Edward (the late Marian) Mahalik; and his numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Rudolph "Rudy" Mahalik Sr., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Rudolph Mahalik Sr. as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
