SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Darius Dean Harms of Flatville, who passed away on July 21, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Darius Harms was born in Champaign County to Wilke M. and Anna J. (Huls) Harms on August 27, 1937; he married Lois L. Busboom in Royal on May 31, 1969; and

WHEREAS, Darius Harms farmed in the Flatville area his entire life; he enjoyed sharing his love of farming and tractors with others and often demonstrated the progress of farming from the early 1900s to the current time; he was among the founding members of the Half Century of Progress Show and was superintendent of tractor pull events at the Champaign County Fair for over 40 years; and

WHEREAS, Darius Harms was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Flatville, serving as council President and on the Historical Committee for many years; he was a founding member of the Illinois Tractor Pulling Association and the National Tractor Pullers Association, and was an honorary Kentucky Colonel; he was a longtime member of the I&I Antique Tractor and Gas Engine Club and the International Harvester Collectors Club Chapter 10; and

WHEREAS, Darius Harms was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Darius Harms is survived by his wife, Lois; his children, Teri (Paul) Travis, Toni (Jeff) Brown, Derek Harms, and Dirk (Audrey) Harms; his grandchildren, Abby Harms, Brett Brown, Hallie Harms, Brooks Brown, Brodie Harms, Bryce Brown, Korinne Travis, and Kelsie Harms; his sister, Marlys (Greg) Cooper; his brother and sister-in-law, Les (Sheila) Busboom; and five nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Darius Dean Harms, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Darius Harms as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
