SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Donald R. Shaner of Wheaton, who passed
4away on March 10, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Donald Shaner was born in 1926 in DeKalb and lived
6the majority of his life in Wheaton; he graduated from Wheaton
7Community High School and served in the United States Navy in
8the Philippines during World War II; he married Twylah Havens
9in 1948 and graduated from the University of Illinois with a
10bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1950; the
11following year he earned his master's degree in the same
12subject from the University of Illinois; and
 
13    WHEREAS, After college, Donald Shaner worked as an engineer
14for 3M in Minnesota; he then returned to the Chicago area and
15worked as an engineer at the Elgin Watch Co.; he also worked in
16management for the Skokie-based International Mineral &
17Chemical; in the mid-1960s, he joined Warren King and
18Associates as a consultant, and, in 1968, he started his own
19consulting firm; after his retirement in 1993, he served on the
20Wheaton Warrenville School Board for 4 years from 1997 to 2001;
21and
 
22    WHEREAS, Donald Shaner was preceded in death by his wife of

155 years, Twylah and his brother, Herbert Shaner, Jr.; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Donald Shaner is survived by his brother, Victor
3Shaner; his daughter, Sandra (Wendell) Grogan; his son, Chris
4(Sue) Shaner; and his 4 grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of
7Donald R. Shaner, and extend our sincere condolences to his
8family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
9further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Donald Shaner as an expression of
12our deepest sympathy.
