SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Donald R. Shaner of Wheaton, who passed away on March 10, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Donald Shaner was born in 1926 in DeKalb and lived the majority of his life in Wheaton; he graduated from Wheaton Community High School and served in the United States Navy in the Philippines during World War II; he married Twylah Havens in 1948 and graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1950; the following year he earned his master's degree in the same subject from the University of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, After college, Donald Shaner worked as an engineer for 3M in Minnesota; he then returned to the Chicago area and worked as an engineer at the Elgin Watch Co.; he also worked in management for the Skokie-based International Mineral & Chemical; in the mid-1960s, he joined Warren King and Associates as a consultant, and, in 1968, he started his own consulting firm; after his retirement in 1993, he served on the Wheaton Warrenville School Board for 4 years from 1997 to 2001; and

WHEREAS, Donald Shaner was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Twylah and his brother, Herbert Shaner, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, Donald Shaner is survived by his brother, Victor Shaner; his daughter, Sandra (Wendell) Grogan; his son, Chris (Sue) Shaner; and his 4 grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of Donald R. Shaner, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Donald Shaner as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
