SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John Walsh D'Arcy III, who passed away on
4August 23, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III was born on August 8, 1926 in
6Joliet; his parents were Verna and John D'Arcy; and
 
7    WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III attended St. Raymond's in Joliet
8and St. Thomas Military Academy in St. Paul before serving in
9the United States Navy as a bombardier during World War II;
10after his honorable discharge, he attended the University of
11St. Thomas in St. Paul; and
 
12    WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III was an active member of St. Mary
13Immaculate Catholic Church in Plainfield, where he served on
14various boards supporting the growth of the church and school;
15his voice was familiar to daily communicants as he regularly
16lectured and sang at the morning Masses; he was actively
17involved in and a member of the boards of the Joliet Franciscan
18Sisters and Catholic Charities; and
 
19    WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III began his career in banking with
20the Pullman Bank in Chicago, where he was instrumental in
21initiating the Illinois Bank Charge before it was merged into

1the VISA brand; his integrity, drive, and experience caught the
2interest of several Joliet businessmen, who recruited him to
3lead the founding of Heritage Bank and Trust in 1971; he made
4various investments, including in the founding of
5International Games, distributor of the popular card game UNO,
6which enabled him to later realize his true lifelong ambitions
7of driving tractors and farming; after retirement, he purchased
8various farms and operated them with his sons; he also founded
9JJD Enterprises and Caton Farms; and
 
10    WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III and his wife actively served the
11communities of Plainfield and Joliet; he was President of the
12Joliet Rotary Club, a Plainfield Village Trustee, a member of
13the Plainfield Library Board, a trustee of the University of
14St. Francis in Joliet, and a longtime benefactor of Lewis
15University in Romeoville; and
 
16    WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III was preceded in death by his
17parents; and
 
18    WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III is survived by his wife of 67
19years, Margaret Jeanette; his children, Margaret (Jim) Lacey,
20John (Diane), Kevin (Vicky), Terry (Sue), Patrick (Kathy),
21Candace (Tom) Nielsen, Michael (Beverly), and Tom (Sue); his
22grandchildren, Kristen Corcoran, Scott, Mike, and John Lacey,
23Jennifer Ness, John and Ryan D'Arcy, Jim, Brooke, and Andrew

1D'Arcy, Chris, Nick, Harry, and Jack D'Arcy, Beau D'Arcy,
2Bridget Platt, Brendan and Christian Nielsen, Stephanie
3Greene, Lauren Crawford, Jeff and Lucas D'Arcy, and Sean, Lily,
4and Aiden D'Arcy; 16 great-grandchildren; his brother, Edward
5(Barbara) D'Arcy; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be
6it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
9family and friends, mourn the passing of John Walsh D'Arcy III;
10and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of John D'Arcy III as an expression of
13our sympathy.
