SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of George E. McGreer of Illinois City, who passed away on October 11, 2016; and

WHEREAS, George McGreer was born on July 5, 1929 on the family farm near Illinois City; his parents were Harry and Emma Moser McGreer; he married Marian Linde on July 5, 1953 at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Aledo; and

WHEREAS, George McGreer served in the United States Army 1st Infantry Division in Nuremberg, Germany from 1951 to 1953; and

WHEREAS, George McGreer graduated from Reynolds High School and from Muscatine Community College in 1949; and

WHEREAS, George McGreer was a farmer, raising livestock and crops; he enjoyed running farm equipment and continued to farm into his 80s; he also built two houses and repaired many farm buildings; and

WHEREAS, George McGreer was a lifelong member of the Pine Bluff and Illinois City United Methodist Church; and

WHEREAS, George McGreer enjoyed his grandchildren and followed their activities; he also enjoyed following the sports and activities of his sons; and

WHEREAS, George McGreer was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; and a great-granddaughter; and

WHEREAS, George McGreer is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marian McGreer; his sons, Bret (Paulette) McGreer, Brian (Tammy) McGreer, and Barry (Donna) McGreer; his grandchildren, Lindsey (Luke), Tricia (Zach), Afton (Ben), Kelsey, Melissa (Ryan), Samantha (Hunter), Brianna, Connor, and Joscelyn; eight great-grandchildren; and his sister, Evelyn Dorothy (Ward); therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of George E. McGreer; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of George McGreer as an expression of our sympathy.
