SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Paul "Ponyo" Parks of East Moline, who
4passed away on October 3, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Paul Parks was born on April 21, 1944 in Preston,
6Mississippi; his parents were Walter Boyd and Rubie Parks; he
7married Sharon Turner on October 11, 1962 in Moline; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Paul Parks graduated from Davenport Central High
9School, where he was a member of both the football and track
10teams; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Paul Parks proudly served in the United States
12Marine Corps, where he achieved the rank of corporal and served
13as a contract surveillance specialist for Camp Pendleton; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Paul Parks loved to race cars and was a NHRA
15member; he won many awards and trophies from multiple Midwest
16raceways; he also loved westerns, which were always tuned in on
17his TV; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Paul Parks was preceded in death by his parents;
19his son, Paul Parks, Jr.; and his grandparents, Willie and
20Nelly Parks; and

1    WHEREAS, Paul Parks is survived by his wife, Sharon Parks;
2his daughter, Shirrelle (Cecil Jackson) Jones; his son, Mark
3Parks; his siblings, Wydell Boyd, Judy Boyd-Hillebrand, and
4Warren Boyd; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and
5many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
8family and friends, mourn the passing of Paul "Ponyo" Parks;
9and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Paul Parks as an expression of our
12sympathy.
