SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Paul "Ponyo" Parks of East Moline, who passed away on October 3, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Paul Parks was born on April 21, 1944 in Preston, Mississippi; his parents were Walter Boyd and Rubie Parks; he married Sharon Turner on October 11, 1962 in Moline; and

WHEREAS, Paul Parks graduated from Davenport Central High School, where he was a member of both the football and track teams; and

WHEREAS, Paul Parks proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, where he achieved the rank of corporal and served as a contract surveillance specialist for Camp Pendleton; and

WHEREAS, Paul Parks loved to race cars and was a NHRA member; he won many awards and trophies from multiple Midwest raceways; he also loved westerns, which were always tuned in on his TV; and

WHEREAS, Paul Parks was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Paul Parks, Jr.; and his grandparents, Willie and Nelly Parks; and

WHEREAS, Paul Parks is survived by his wife, Sharon Parks; his daughter, Shirrelle (Cecil Jackson) Jones; his son, Mark Parks; his siblings, Wydell Boyd, Judy Boyd-Hillebrand, and Warren Boyd; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Paul "Ponyo" Parks; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Paul Parks as an expression of our sympathy.
