SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Clyde D. Sedam of Andalusia, who passed
4away on October 5, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Clyde Sedam was born in Buffalo, Iowa to C. Lester
6and Emma Verstring Sedam on April 30, 1920; he married Lola L.
7"Peggy" Garvey in Rock Island on November 1, 1947; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Clyde "Blondie" Sedam served in United States Army
9during World War II from January of 1942 to October of 1945; he
10was the last living member of "Spearhead" 3rd Armored Division,
11Company A; he landed on Normandy Beach and served in the
12European Theater; he was a POW and was liberated by American
13Troops; he was a recipient of the Bronze Medal; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Clyde Sedam and his wife moved to Andalusia in
151951 to raise their family; he was employed at the I.H. Farmall
16Works in Rock Island for over 33 years; he retired in 1980; he
17farmed the family farm from 1971 to 1994; in the later years,
18he farmed with his brother, Clark; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Clyde Sedam was an Andalusia Volunteer Fireman and
20served as Assistant Chief; he served as the Road Commissioner
21for Andalusia Township; he was a member of Community Baptist

1Church in Andalusia and Reynolds American Legion Post 1166; he
2served as Scoutmaster for Troop 220 Boy Scouts of America; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Clyde Sedam enjoyed gardening, fishing, drafting
4house plans, and spending time with family and friends; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Clyde Sedam was preceded in death by his parents;
6his son, Daryl Sedam; his son-in-law, John Balmer; his sister,
7Lucille Nebiker; and his sister-in-law, Ressa Mae Sedam; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Clyde Sedam is survived by his wife, Lola "Peggy";
9his children, Brenda (Ted) Billingsley, Donald (Kathy) Sedam,
10and Bonnie Balmer; seven grandchildren; 13
11great-grandchildren; his siblings, Caroline (Jake) Gluba,
12Clark (Shirley) Sedam, and Chester Sedam; his brother-in-law,
13Roy Nebiker; and many nieces, nephews, and other family;
14therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Clyde D. Sedam, and extend our sincere condolences to his
18family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Clyde Sedam as an expression of our
