SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Clive Allen Follmer, who passed away on August 14, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Clive Follmer was born on October 1, 1931 in Forrest; his parents were Eva Jane and William G. Follmer; he married Donna Lee Henson on October 11, 1953; and

WHEREAS, Clive Follmer attended the University of Illinois from 1949 to 1953 and graduated with a degree in commerce; he played baseball and basketball for the Fighting Illini, taking his basketball team to two Final Four tournaments in 1951 and 1952; he was named Big Ten Athlete of the Year in 1953; and

WHEREAS, After a stint as a pitcher for the White Sox Minor League for two years, Clive Follmer served as an officer in the United States Army and was stationed in Fort Sill, Oklahoma from 1955 to 1957; after his military service, he returned to the University of Illinois to attend law school; he graduated in 1958 and practiced law in Champaign County until his retirement in 2014; he was also a real estate developer and he played a vital role in the development of southeast Urbana; and

WHEREAS, Clive Follmer was a history buff and his insatiable curiosity led him on numerous travels around the world; he was also an avid gardener and enjoyed playing golf, the piano, and the accordion and playing practical jokes on his friends and family; and

WHEREAS, Clive Follmer was preceded in death by his wife, Donna, and his brother, Dan; and

WHEREAS, Clive Follmer is survived by his children, Randy (Linda) Follmer, Darcy Gentner, Kent Follmer, and Jacqueline Follmer; his brothers, Mack Follmer and Leon Follmer; his sister, Juanita Mykkanen; seven grandchildren; and his great-grandson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Clive Allen Follmer; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Clive Follmer as an expression of our sympathy.
